Mairi’s story goes back 21 years she was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s disease, a type of lymphoma. She had her first blood transfusion in an operation done in July that year. After that, Mairi received radiation and chemotherapy, and her blood was so poor that she again needed a transfusion before the round of treatment.

After that, I thought: I could be a donor myself someday, I even accompanied a friend once but then I learned that I wasn’t eligible due having undergone radio- and chemotherapy. But all the more for that, I want to express sincere gratitude and respect to all donors who helped me in my recovery,” she says.
