I prepared my first visit as a donor long in advance. I had just turned 18 and was determined to go. However, the endeavour had a bit of a sad ending because I did not hold my arm up for long enough and ended up staining my sleeve with some blood. This did not manage to scare me off and I continued donating blood. I now have two children. Both deliveries were difficult and the last one so much so than I needed a blood transfusion myself on 12 April 2011 in Tallinn Central Hospital. If I started out giving blood as a habit, then now I do it out of gratitude. There are moments that are bigger than us. Giving blood is one such moment.
